Disposition:
Dedicated: Sousuke is incredibly dedicated to whatever he sets his mind to. As a young child, he set himself to wanting compete on the world stage in swimming and he made that his goal, so much so that he ignored the signs that his shoulder was beginning to give out. While yes, his dedication did lead to him being unable to swim, it also led him to discovering a new dream: being able to swim with Rin once more. This dream caused him to hide his injury and transfer to Samezuka in order to swim with Rin one more time. In spite of his injury, after swimming in a relay with his teammates and friends from Samezuka, Sousuke found that he still wanted to swim, that if given the chance, he would continue on.
On the flip side, Sousuke tends to take this positive trait of his and work them to a point where they have negative impacts, not only on him, but on those around him. His dedication to being able to compete at the international stage led Sousuke to ignoring every single sign that his shoulder was giving out until it was too late. Sousuke blinds himself to other factors in order to achieve what he wants.
Observant He seems disinterested in most things, but Sousuke can be pretty observant to what’s going on around him. He can tell what’s affecting his friends and teammates and just how it’s affecting them. Sure, at times he’ll use this as a way to poke fun at friends, such as when he jokes with Rin about understanding his fascination and desire to swim with Haru. At the same time, he’s able to see that Nitori’s desire to swim the relay with Rin is causing him to train long and hard to do so. Not wanting to see the other swimmer possibly go through the same ordeal he did, Sousuke works with and trains Nitori, pointing out flaws in his form and how to improve them. Sousuke even directly confronts Haru towards the end of the series, pointing out how his inability to decide his future isn’t just affect him, but the people that Haru cares about.
Protective He cares a lot about everyone important to him. Sousuke tries to be aloof, but he is capable of getting attached, and whoever gains that gets one (1) Sousuke as their bodyguard for life. It doesn’t matter if it’s something major, such as him believing that someone is negatively a loved one’s future or that someone might be close to working their body past it’s breaking point, or something minor, such as using someone he cares about as bait during a water gun war, Sousuke protects those he cares about to the best of his ability.
However, at times, he takes his protective nature a little far. In his first confrontation with Haru, Sousuke explicity blames him for potentially ruining Rin’s chances to swim and aggressively corners him against a vending machine, warning him to stay away from Rin. For the vast majority of the series, Sousuke has a negative opinion of Haru and refuses to even glance at Haru with anything but anger. Even when Sousuke understands the positive impact that Haru has had on Rin, it takes them being partnered together during the water gun war for them to even have a positive relationship from Sousuke’s point of view.
Repressed If only because I couldn’t call this “Emotionally Constipated”. Sousuke has a lot of trouble with his emotions, more specifically with recognizing what they are. As a child, Sousuke couldn’t recognize that while he shared a rivaly with Rin, he also had a very dear friendship with him as well. When Rin tells him that he’s transferring schools to swim with other people, Sousuke is very obviously hurt, but doesn’t tell Rin this at any point, even after Rin leaves for Australia and stops sending him letters. As Sousuke grew older, he remained just as repressed. His arc throughout the series does deal with his feelings with regards to swimming and how he’s unsure about what exactly he’s feeling. The only thing he ever knew for sure was that he wanted to continue swimming until he figured it out.
Suitability:
Sousuke will find it difficult to adapt to the world of Noctium. He's just a regular boy from the regular world. Finding himself in an alien world with a completely different sort of environment and culture from the one he grew up in will be a complete shock to him. He'll try to keep himself in check and catch himself up with what's going on. Any similarities between Noctium and Earth will be comforts to him, and he'll focus in on those as a way to get himself grounded.
Synchrony will be difficult for Sousuke, at least to start off with. He's pretty reserved, preferring to keep his touches to himself unless he's built up a rapport with someone. Any Synchrony he does at the start will be platonic. He'll see see the difference in attitude in how physical contact is treated in Noctium and, depending on his development, will come to accept it and change himself or just see it as a difference in point of view.
Perhaps the most difficult part of Noctium to accept will be the monster transformations. His first transformation will likely cause him to freak out slightly as he finds his body changing. After a couple of transformations, Sousuke will find himself adapting. He'll figure out the best way to deal with the changes and maybe help anyone who is struggling the best way he can.
Condition upon arrival: Healthy
Abilities:
Sousuke is an ordinary human with abilities well within the realm of human limitations. Prior to his shoulder injury, Sousuke was a nationally ranked swimmer, but asides from that there’s nothing special.
Except the boy being able to get lost on his own school campus.
Inventory:
A charm that reads “Certain Victory” (based on the assumption that his shoulder brace would count as part of his clothing).
Gembond: Ruby
Gem Location: Right shoulder
